Author Guidelines

Authors are strongly encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the official JSBE Manuscript Template to ensure consistency in article structure, formatting, declarations, tables, figures, citations, and references.

The template applies to Original Research Articles, Action Research, Innovation Studies, Policy Analyses, Review/Conceptual Articles, Perspectives, and Editorials. Authors should retain only the sections appropriate to their manuscript type.

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles report empirical studies that generate new evidence relevant to basic education. The section welcomes quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational, phenomenological, case-study, action-research, and other methodologically appropriate designs. Studies should present a clear research problem, defensible methodology, transparent analysis, evidence-based findings, and implications for educational practice, policy, leadership, or further research.

Conceptual/Theoretical

Conceptual and theoretical articles advance, refine, integrate, or critically examine ideas, constructs, models, frameworks, and theories relevant to basic education. These articles should demonstrate a clear conceptual contribution, engage critically with existing scholarship, and present propositions, relationships, or research directions that can inform future empirical inquiry and educational practice.

Design and Development Research

Design and Development Research Articles document the systematic analysis, design, development, implementation, refinement, and evaluation of educational products, processes, systems, models, technologies, or interventions. These articles should begin with a clearly identified educational problem or need, demonstrate traceability between the problem and the developed solution, and present evidence from development, formative evaluation, usability testing, implementation, or validation.

This section welcomes studies involving educational technologies, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, instructional systems, assessment tools, learning resources, supervisory systems, and other innovations developed to address authentic problems in basic education.
