Welcome to JSBE: Advancing Research for Sustainable Basic Education

2026-08-23

Welcome to the Journal of Sustainable Basic Education (JSBE).

JSBE was established with a simple but important conviction: better education requires better evidence, and better evidence must reach the people who can use it.

Across schools and learning communities, educators continuously confront questions about teaching, assessment, learner development, technology, leadership, inclusion, policy, and educational change. Many of these questions generate valuable research and innovation. Yet research achieves its greatest value only when it moves beyond compliance, presentation, or storage and contributes to understanding, decision-making, practice, and improvement.

The Journal of Sustainable Basic Education provides a scholarly platform for this work.

JSBE is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that publishes research, action research, innovation studies, policy analyses, conceptual and review articles, and evidence-based practices relevant to basic education.

The journal welcomes contributions from:

  • teachers and education practitioners;
  • school leaders and instructional supervisors;
  • researchers and academics;
  • graduate students;
  • policymakers;
  • educational innovators;
  • community and development partners; and
  • other scholars concerned with improving basic education.
Our Scholarly Direction

JSBE recognizes sustainability as more than an environmental concept.

Within basic education, sustainability also concerns whether educational practices and systems can remain effective, inclusive, resilient, responsive, scalable, contextually appropriate, and valuable over time.

The journal therefore encourages scholarship that asks not only:

Does an intervention work?

but also:

For whom does it work? Under what conditions? Why does it work? Can schools realistically sustain it? What evidence supports the claim? What can other educators learn from it?

These questions reflect the kind of research culture JSBE seeks to promote.

Our Commitment

JSBE is committed to:

  • rigorous and ethical peer review;
  • methodological integrity;
  • transparent scholarly reporting;
  • responsible research involving learners and communities;
  • meaningful connections between research and educational practice;
  • inclusive and respectful scholarly communication;
  • responsible use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence;
  • open access to published knowledge; and
  • continuous improvement of editorial and publication standards.

The journal welcomes methodological diversity. Quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, action research, design and development studies, policy analyses, and other appropriate scholarly approaches are valued when the methodology is aligned with the research problem and the conclusions remain supported by the evidence.

Building a Research Culture Together

JSBE does not view publication as the endpoint of research.

Publication should allow evidence to be examined, questioned, reproduced, adapted, challenged, improved, and ultimately used.

Through the journal, we hope to create stronger connections among researchers, teachers, school leaders, policymakers, and communities—and to encourage educational decisions grounded in evidence rather than assumption.

As JSBE begins its scholarly journey, we invite you to participate as an author, reviewer, reader, researcher, educator, and partner in knowledge-building.

Welcome to the Journal of Sustainable Basic Education.

May this journal become a space where research does more than occupy pages—where it helps improve the classrooms, schools, systems, and learning communities it was intended to serve.
